South Columbus Boys Win, Girls Lose Against East Bladen

South Columbus Boys 49, East Bladen 46

ELIZABETHTOWN—Khalil Morgan hit two clutch free throws for South Columbus to seal the victory over East Bladen Thursday night 49-46.

Morgan led all scorers for the game with 26 points. The game was tight throughout, as neither team led by more than five points in the second half. With the win. South

Columbus moves to (5-4) on the year. The Stallions travel to Fairmont (4-6) tonight (Jan. 9) in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams. The Eagles were led by Tevin McLean with 13 points. Keyshawn Kemp chipped in 12 points while teammate Layden Scott contributed 10 points.

East Bladen falls to 1-9 on the year. They will travel to West Columbus (3-8) in a Carolina Conference game on tonight.

East Bladen Girls 59, South Columbus 26

ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen jumped out to 16-2 lead and never looked back as they crushed South Columbus 59-26 in girls’ basketball Thursday night.

The Eagles (9-2) raced to a 21-point halftime lead before expanding it to 50-15 in the third quarter to cause the sportsmanship rule. The rule states that the clock will run continuously the remainder of the game once a 35-point lead is established in a ballgame.

Ariel Cromartie led the Lady Eagles with 22 points in the win. They will travel to West Columbus (0-8) in a Carolina Conference game on January 9. Bristol Parker scored 10 points for the Stallions in the loss. South Columbus (2-8) will go to Fairmont (11-1) on Friday in a Southeastern Conference battle.

Whiteville Takes Down West Columbus in Boys’ And Girls’ Basketball

WHITEVILLE—The Lady Pack used staunch defense to smother the Vikings Thursday night 49-14. The Wolfpack held West Columbus to only two points in the first quarter and a total of four for the half. The Wolfpack were led by Naylani Shaw with 16 points while Jashai Robbs added 10 points in the win. The Wolfpack goes to 2-7 with the win.

They will host conference foe West Bladen (1-8) tonight (Jan 9). West Columbus falls to 0-8 on the season. The Vikings will host East Bladen (1-1, 8-2) tonight (Jan. 9).

Whiteville Boys 76 West Columbus 50

WHITEVILLE—The Wolfpack played the boys entire team as the Pack demolished West Columbus 76-50 Thursday.
Freshman Trayvionne Williams had 18 points and six steals while freshman teammate Teron Legette chipped in 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the victory. Whiteville (6-4) only led by five after the first quarter but turned up the defense in the second quarter to expand the lead to 17 points, making it 37-20 at the half.

The lead got up to 28 points in the second half and the Vikings never got any closer than 18 points. Whiteville will host West Bladen (7-5) in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams tonight (Jan. 9). West Columbus was led by Larry Graham with 10 points. The Vikings (0-1, 3-8) will host East Bladen (1-1, 1-9) in a Carolina Conference battle tonight.
