West Brunswick Tops Knights in OT Thriller 83-81

DUBLIN – West Brunswick downed West Bladen 83-81 in overtime to win the Bladen Offroad Tournament on Tuesday.

Isaac Clarida’s layup at the buzzer capped an 8-0 run for the comeback. West Bladen held a 81-75 lead with 48 seconds left in overtime but failed to score the rest of the period. Matt Kenney led the Trojans with 26 points and tournament MVP Kveon Griffen had 23 points in the victory.

The game was tied 28-28 at the half before the Knights took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter 56-50. West Brunswick tied the game up 70-70 to force it into overtime. West Bladen missed free throws and had two costly turnovers in the final 48 seconds that helped the Trojans to the victory.

West Brunswick goes to 9-3 on the season. West Bladen falls to 7-5. Tylik McCall led the Knights with 31 points and Jackson Pait contributed 19 points in the loss. In the first round, Jackson Pait scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures to lead West Bladen in a rout over Midway 87-48.

In the semi-final round, the Knights downed Hoke County 90-73. Tylik McCall had 27 points and Jackson Pait scored 24 points in the win. West Bladen will travel to Whiteville (5-3) on Jan. 9 to begin Southeastern Conference play.

West Columbus Boys Take Sixth Place

West Columbus boys took sixth place in the Bladen Offroad Tournament. On Saturday, Hoke County got the best of the Vikings 71-51.

West Columbus recovered on Monday to defeat Midway 67-64. On Tuesday, Anyahs Butler scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures as Clinton downed the Vikings 67-48 in the fifth place game. The Vikings (3-6) goes into conference play Tuesday night when they host East Columbus (1-6).

Stallions Take Seventh in Tournament 

The South Columbus Stallions came home with seventh place in the Bladen Offroad Tournament. On Saturday, the Stallions fell to Bareen Baptist 59-51. On Monday, Anyahs Butler scored 21 points to lead four scorers in double figures as Clinton defeated South Columbus 55-48.

On Tuesday, the Stallions came out on top as they defeated Midway 68-66 to secure seventh place. South Columbus (4-4) will travel to play East Bladen (0-8) on Jan. 8.
