Here’s today’s Bottom Line:

We’ll see increasing and thickening cloudiness today as moisture starts to stream in our direction. A southwesterly flow will also boost our temps into the lower 60s this afternoon.

A stationary front becomes established just south of the state line tonight through Saturday. An area of moisture (isentropic upglide, in meteorological terms) will develop, leading to rain chances well after midnight tonight. On Saturday, an area of low pressure slides eastward along that stationary boundary, further enhancing the rain through the day.

The WPC rainfall projection shows roughly half an inch of rain across Columbus County. Some of the models have as much as 1 inch, especially over the southern half of the county.   In general, half to three-quarters of an inch of rain can be expected.  Certainly not drought-busting rains, but beneficial rain nonetheless.

If you have outdoor plans on Saturday… might want to reschedule them, or wear a jacket and keep the umbrella handy, as it will be rainy, damp, and dreary.

Rain should end from west to east Saturday evening. The trailing cold front moves through and temps dip back into the upper 30s by Sunday morning.

High pressure then builds in on Sunday and will become firmly entrenched through most of next week. We’ll start off with relatively chilly temps on Sunday but as the flow becomes southwesterly once again, we’ll warm to well-above-normal by the midweek period… some areas likely around 70 degrees. For reference, normal high is 55.  The next frontal boundary moves through around the end of next week.
