Here’s today’s Bottom Line:

It’s not going to be a nice day across Columbus county today… unless you like rainy skies and chilly temps. From the drought standpoint, this is a good day. It’s not a drought “buster” but every little bit helps.

Low pressure will run east along a stationary front located over upstate South Carolina. Moisture streaming northward over the boundary (called isentropic upglide) means widespread rain. The rain won’t necessarily be heavy, but we’ll still pick up one-third to two-thirds of an inch of rain… some isolated spots may close in on one inch of rainfall.

As for temps… since we’re north of the frontal boundary, it’s going to be rather chilly today with temps around the 50-degree mark. Go north of say Lumberton or Elizabethtown, and you’re going to be stuck in the 40s.

Just not a nice day.

The low pushes offshore tonight and will be replaced by building high pressure. After a slight chance for rain this evening, our skies clear and temps fall into the 30s. If you’re hoping for some snow, sorry, but the precipitation will be long gone before the colder air moves in.

Sunday will be the polar opposite of today with plenty of sunshine and seasonable temps, highs generally in the mid to upper 50s.

As the high pushes south/east and starts to ridge, our temps will warm up rather dramatically as we go into next week. The trends are warmer and warmer with each model run, and honestly I don’t see any reason to hate on that. Each day… Monday through Thursday… will feature incrementally warmer temps. We’ll start off around 60 on Monday and be in the mid 70s by Thursday, with lows running from the lower 30s early Monday morning to the upper 40s by early Thursday morning.

It appears our next front will arrive just in time for next weekend but it’s too early to pin down any details on that.
