Area Softball Roundup for March 12: Gators, Eagles Win

EAST COLUMBUS 14, NORTH DUPLIN 2

CALYPSO—Kamora Bryant knocked in eight runs off two home runs as East Columbus defeated North Duplin 14-2 in softball on Tuesday night.

Sara Coleman also did some serious damage at the plate with two home runs and three RBI’s on the night. With the win, East Columbus moves to 1-0 in the Carolina Conference and 4-1 on the season. Gracie Coyle was brilliant on the mound, going six innings with six strikeouts and one earned run for the Gators. The Gators will host West Brunswick (5-1) on March 12. North Duplin (2-2) will travel to Union (2-2) on Friday.

EAST BLADEN 3, CLINTON 2

ELIZABETHTOWN—Jenna Brice for East Bladen gave up two runs on eight hits to lead East Bladen past Clinton 3-2 in softball Tuesday night.

Brice struck out 11 batters in a complete game effort. Gracie Edwards was two for three at the plate while teammates Sierra Thompson, Gracie Clark, and Niyah Wooten each drove in a run for the Eagles.

East Bladen (2-2) will travel to West Bladen (1-5) on Friday for a county rivalry game. Clinton (2-4) will host Lakewood (0-4) on Friday.

NORTH BRUNSWICK 2, WEST BLADEN 1

DUBLIN—Gabby Elkins hit a home run in the fifth and pitched two innings of shutout softball to propel North Brunswick past West Bladen 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Kaylee Mcardell started the game for the Scorpions, going five innings with four strikeouts and one earned run. Maycee Kinlaw went six innings and had five strikeouts in the loss for the Knights (1-5). North Brunswick (4-1) will travel to Topsail (5-0) on Friday. West Bladen will host East Bladen (2-2) on March 13.

HEIDE TRASK 12, SOUTH COLUMBUS 1

TABOR CITY—Heide Trask combined for a three-hit effort on the mound as the Titans beat South Columbus 12-1 in softball on Tuesday.

Lauren Hall led the Titans’ attack at the plate going four for four with four runs batted in. Teammate Jayln Reece-Murray went 4-4 on the night with an RBI and Taylor Sparkman added two RBI’s on two hits. Heide Trask (2-0) will travel to Spring Creek (0-3) on March 12. South Columbus (1-4) will host Loris (6-0) on Friday.

LUMBERTON 15, WHITEVILLE 0

LUMBERTON—Lumberton’s Ava Hanna and Norah Johnson combined for a no-hitter as the Pirates defeated Whiteville 15-0 in softball on Wednesday night.

Hanna also showed up big at the plate, going three for four with four runs batted in. Lumberton (4-2) will host Gray’s Creek (2-3) on Friday. Whiteville (0-4) will host St. Pauls’ (0-4) on March 13.
