Gators’ Gauge Simmons Throws No-hitter

PEMBROKE—Gauge Simmons threw a no-hitter as the East Columbus Gators defeated Fairmont in the consolation bracket in the Robeson County Baseball Slugfest on Monday.
Simmons struck out 11 batters in the victory. Mack Freeman had a hit and an RBI to lead the Gators. East Columbus will take on Heide Trask (6-6) in the fifth-place game on Tuesday (today). Fairmont was eliminated from the tournament with the loss. The Tornadoes will host Whiteville (9-4) on April 14.

FAYETTEVILLE—West Bladen defeated South View 9-5 in baseball on Monday to advance to the championship of the Randy Ledford Memorial Baseball Tournament.
The Knights will face Cape Fear (12-3) in the championship game at South View High School. The Knights scored five runs in the sixth inning for the comeback win. Aiden Smith had two hits and two RBIs to lead the bats for the Knights. South View falls to 11-4 on the season. They will take on Pine Forest (1-13) on Tuesday (today).

SNOW HILL—Zack Jones had a hit and two RBIs to lead Ayden Grifton to a 11-1 romp over Whiteville in the Pitt Classic Baseball Tournament on Monday.
James Allen hit a home run also for the Chargers. Whiteville (9-4) will take on Greene Central on Tuesday. Ayden Grifton will take on First Colonial (1-6) on Tuesday (today).

FAYETTEVILLE—South Columbus snuck past Village Christian 1-0 in the consolation round of the Randy Ledford Memorial Tournament on Monday.
The Stallions won despite only having three hits as a team. South Columbus (8-6) will face Overhills (5-9) on Tuesday. The Knights of Village Christian (10-6)will play Western Harnett (4-13) on Tuesday (today).

SHALLOTTE—East Bladen’s pitching staff combined for a two-hitter as the Eagles defeated Central Davidson 2-0 in the Beach Diamond Invitational at West Brunswick High School.
The Eagles (7-6) will meet West Stanley (15-0) in the semi-finals of the tournament today. Colton Daly and Davion Lewis scored for the Eagles. Central Davidson (9-4) will face Randleman (12-3) on Tuesday (today).
