An alleged litterbug got a second chance Friday after being tracked down through trash he had illegally dumped.
Columbus County deputies have been cracking down on illegal dumping recent weeks due to multiple citizen complaints.
The sheriff’s office was called to the 1300 block of Furnie Hammond Road to a report about illegal dumping on Friday, a report showed. Deputies located multiple boxes, clothing, and household items discarded in a wooded area.
During the investigation, an individual was identified based on materials found in the trach. When the individual was contacted, the sheriff’s office said, he admitted to dumping the items at the location. The individual was advised to remove the items or face a citation.
The person agreed to clean up the mess, and no charges were filed.
