A month after Cynthia Hansen was slain in her Whiteville fitness studio, Gov. Josh Stein announced today that the state is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of her killer.
Hansen, 71, was severely assaulted inside Stronger Body Fitness on Thompson Street in the early morning hours of March 11. Hansen was able to provide a few details before she died at Columbus Regional.

A client saw a man leaving the premises before 6:30 a.m., but could not provide a description. WPD requested surveillance camera footage from the neighborhood, but the only image that was obtained did not provide details about the possible suspect.
The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the case, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is processing evidence from the scene.
WPD and a private donor had previously offered a $2,000 reward, and a GoFundMe was set up to provide additional money.
“We must use every tool at our disposal to pursue justice for victims,” said Stein. “I urge North Carolinians who have information about cases like this one to contact local law enforcement and help us provide closure to victims’ families.”
WPD Chief Paul Rockenbach said today (Wednesday) that more information will be released at a press conference Thursday morning. We’ll bring that press conference to you live via the CCN Facebook page.
Anyone having information concerning this case should contact the Whiteville Police Department at (910) 642-5111 or the State Bureau of Investigation at (919) 662-4500.
