An admission that only methamphetamine, not fentanyl, would be found in a vehicle led to the arrest of a wanted man Monday.
Jonathan Kellihan, 33, of 412 Evergreen Baptist Church Road, was held under a secured bind, according to detention center records. He was charged with an outstanding warrant for misdemeanor larceny.
Charges are pending against a female passenger in the car, the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
Deputies with Bravo Squad were on patrol when they spotted Kellihan’s vehicle traveling in the left lane on Washington Street before turning onto Legion Drive around midnight. They executed a traffic stop on the vehicle, the report said. They detected a strong odor of marijuana when they approached the car, the report said.
A records check showed Kellihan had outstanding warrants, and he was taken into custody.
Deputies were searching the vehicle when they reportedly found a folded dollar bill containing a small amount of “a crystal-like substance.”
“The female passenger advised deputies that the substance was not fentanyl and stated that the only drug that may be inside the vehicle was ‘ice’,” according to a press release. Ice is a common street term for methamphetamine. The substance was field tested on scene and produced a positive indication, the release said.
Charges are still pending against the woman, according to the report. Her name and potential charges have not been released.
