Here’s today’s Bottom Line

The burn ban has ended for Columbus and Bladen counties — actually ALL of southeast North Carolina.

On Saturday we received more rainfall than we did the entire time between March 16 through May 1st.

This does *NOT* end the drought. Not even close. We put a basketball-sized dent in the fender, but the drought is far from over. We need several more of these kinds of systems.

We’re going to be dry … very dry today through Wednesday. Temperatures will be a bit on the cool side today, around 70, rising to the mid and upper 80s by Wednesday.

The next rain chances arrive on Thursday with a fairly strong cold front. The ensemble modeling suggests a good likelihood of rain across the area. There is a lot of disagreement in the modeling with regards to how much rain can be expected from this system. Honestly the rain totals will be highly dependent on whatever convection may form over the area. I’m also going to be watching this for a severe weather threat, depending on the timing of the frontal passage. Right now the SPC doesn’t have any highlights in the day 4-8 period so I’ll just watch it for now.

Clearing skies return on Friday with below-normal temps once again.
