Ankle Monitors Stolen

Five ankle monitors owned by a bail bonding company are missing and presumed stolen, and a $1,000 reward is being offered for their return.

Mark Cartret of Around the Clock Bail Bonding said the monitors and chargers are valued at around $5,000 but would be difficult for anyone to pawn or otherwise sell.

“They’re really of no use to anyone,” Cartret said.

Cartret’s firm is among the largest bail bonding interests in the state and nation. Their office is located on Washington Street in Whiteville.

The monitors were scheduled to be sent to Burke County as part of a criminal case there, Cartret said. If they are turned on or plugged in to charge, they can be instantly located – but Cartet said the devices have not yet shown up.

Ankle monitors are commonly used for defendants out on bond before trial, or those who have been sentenced but not incarcerated. Domestic violence cases are among the most common uses.

Anyone with information about the stolen devices is asked to call 888.317.2235.
