Work on the new roundabout at Madison, Lee and Franklin in downtown Whiteville will begin in earnest July 20.
Dept. of Transportation spokesman Andrew Barksdale said the project was delayed due to weather conditions.
The roundabout project will close the busy intersection until October. The only way across Soules Swamp during the construction project will be the U.S. 701 Bypass.
All downtown businesses will remain open. Detours will be marked on Lee and Franklin streets for through traffic.
The single-lane roundabout will replace the current lighted intersection.
