Here’s today’s Bottom Line

This is it!! This is the final day of this version of the Great Heat Wave of 2026. It was only “part 1.”

One last hot day as the high pressure ridge says “peace out” and shifts far to the west. Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon as moisture increases dramatically. Showers and thunderstorms are likely — it’s just a matter of timing. It’s looking like most of the day should be dry for most of us but convection should start firing as we get closer to suppertime.

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are a good bet Saturday night and Sunday as a cold front drops south over the area.

Any storms that develop today and Sunday have the potential to produce prolific amounts of lightning as well as gusty winds and intense rainfall.

Some healthy rainfall is possible over the weekend. The two charts here show 48-hour rain projections from the model blend for 8 AM today through 8 AM on Monday, and then a separate run of the model from 8 PM today through 8 PM on Monday. Rainfall amounts will likely be highly variable depending on where showers/storms become established.

Monday is a day of transition toward high pressure… and temps warming back up to the upper 90s by the second half of the work week.
