Here’s today’s Bottom Line
Extremely strong high pressure remains parked over central Tennessee. This ridge will continue to strengthen through the holiday weekend, resulting in extreme heat over the eastern third of the nation.
The high pressure ridge provides something called “subsidence” over the area. Subsidence is a sinking of the air, or descending air. This sinking results in a near-total lack of clouds (and, needless to say, zero rain chances) through the holiday weekend.
Temperatures will be in the upper 90s today, and around 100 degrees Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
The high should push offshore by Monday, resulting in a southerly flow with a lot more moisture. This will lead to the introduction of afternoon thunderstorm chances… but no real drought relief is coming anytime soon.
