The reported victim of a shooting found himself going to jail, rather than the hospital, after another visit to an ex-girlfriend’s home.
James Stucarter Best, 48, of 1204 Rico Rd., Clarkton, was held under a secured bond on charges of misusing 911 and resisting an officer.
Best allegedly called 911 on Aug. 7 from a home on Mt. Calvary Road. He said he had been shot. Deputies arrived and found best was uninjured.
When they attempted to take him into custody, warrants show that Best pulled away and ran through a nearby field, where he tried to hide.
Best was out on bond at the time after a July 20 incident at the same address, according to reports. After being told to stay away from the property, Best reportedly returned at night and attempted to gain access to the home. He fled when the resident called 911, and was found hiding in some bushes. The report said he was carrying binoculars, drug paraphernalia, a small quantity of marijuana and “a blue pill.” Those charges are still pending trial in Columbus County District Court.
Best has an extensive criminal history in Columbus and Bladen dating back to the early 2000s.
