Multiple charges were filed after a Cherry Grove man allegedly choked a woman unconscious with an extension cord.
Jonathan Grooms, 27, of 562 Cheery Grove Rd., Cerro Gordo, faces charges of assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, common law robbery, domestic violence, misdemeanor child abuse, and communicating threats, according to warrants and detention center reports.
The alleged incident was reported Aug. 23. Warrants show that Grooms allegedly strangled a woman he knows with his hands and an extension cord until she passed out. The assault occurred in the presence of a minor child, the warrant said. He had already taken her telephone, warrants show. Before fleeing the scene, Grooms allegedly said he was “going to get a gun” and shoot the victim. He then drove through a ditch.
Grooms was booked into the County Detention Center around 3 a.m. today (Aug. 24.)
