Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Heat. That’s the story for the forecast blog pretty much this entire week.

Yeah there will be a few scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening… but then it’s just going to be flat-out hot. Broad high pressure both at the surface and aloft will keep temps well above normal with heat index values into advisory criteria Tuesday through Friday. Thursday appears to be the peak of the hot spell as our actual highs flirt with the Misery Mark.

Tropics: Three areas of interest in the Atlantic as the slumbering tropics season suddenly wakes up. The biggest area for concern is the area labeled #2, as that has the best chance of developing into a storm over the next few days. A few of the model plots have it flirting with the US east coast and while I remain somewhat doubtful of that, it will need to be watched over the next week.
