BURGAW—South Columbus defeated Pender Monday night 35-14, despite giving up 340 yards on the ground to the Patriots.
The Stallions opened up the with two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter to make the score South Columbus 14-0. In the second period, Jackson Greene threw a touchdown pass to make it an 21-0 advantage by the Stallions.
Austin Deal then got the Patriots on the board with a rushing touchdown. Jaheim Lambert added the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 21-8 before the half.
South Columbus added a rushing touchdown in the third period to push the lead to 28-8. Jamison Brown rushed for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to cut the Stallions’ lead to 28-14. Jackson Greene threw for his second touchdown on the night to make the final score South Columbus 35, Pender 14. Deal had 119 yards rushing on the night for the Patriots.
South Columbus (3-2) will host Fairmont (2-2) on Oct. 2 in the Southeastern Conference opener for both squads. Pender (2-2) will host Anson (3-1) on Friday.
