Here’s today’s Bottom Line
The story today is that of a Nor’easter and something called a “Rex block.”
Nor’easters tend to form from roughly mid-November through the end of March… but this year has to be different (because of course).
A Nor’easter will take shape off the Carolina coast by Wednesday afternoon and meander slowly northward… with the northward progression being blocked by strong high pressure. In meteorology, this is called a Rex Block.
The combination of the high and low pressure centers will funnel chilly northeast winds down the coast. This will mean some of the coolest temperatures we’ve seen since the spring… and we might not get out of the 60s on Thursday.
The general wind flow becomes more northwesterly by Friday as the low continues to try to push into the block. Drier air means more sunshine and slightly warmer temps … but temps through the weekend will continue to run below seasonal normal values. We’ll enjoy bright sunny skies through the weekend with those delightful temps, so this will be a weekend to “get out and enjoy it!”
TROPICS: Post-tropical cyclone Fay will continue to fade into a remnant low.
A tropical wave is forecast to move off the coast of western Africa. Although upper-level winds are not very conducive for development, a tropical depression could form while it moves generally northwestward across the far eastern Atlantic.
