Farmers, gardeners, landscapers or anyone with outdated pesticides and empty containers may dispose of the unwanted materials for free Nov. 3 in Whiteville.
N.C. Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer Services will sponsor Pesticide Disposal Day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Columbus County Cooperative Extension Office, 45 Government Complex Dr., Whiteville. The service is a free and open to the public.
Pesticide residue can still be deadly, even if the chemicals are several years old, outdated or dried inside a container. Nearly all pesticides products will be accepted, including banned and outdated materials.
For containers with missing or incomplete labels, call Lydia Miles, Pesticide coordinator for Columbus Cooperative Extension, at 910.640.6605. Consumers are asked to save any portion of even illegible labels to help identify the product.
For gas cylinders or containers greater than five gallons in size and for tips on transporting pesticides safely to the collection event, contact the extension office at 910.640.6605 before the collection day for special instructions and
information.
