Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Earlier in the year we had a rain-free streak, and we’re staring at another one. Yesterday was day #12 in Whiteville since our last measurable rain event.

High pressure ridging will bring unseasonable warmth today. Foggy conditions this morning will give way to abundant sunshine by the afternoon with temps deep into the 80s.

SHOWDOWN TONIGHT AT LEGION STADIUM is still looking great. Temps will be falling through the 70s into the upper 60s. Goooo WOLFPACK!

A little “backdoor front” will move through the area early Saturday. We’ll have a bit more cloudiness and significantly cooler temps, with highs in the lower 70s.

Halloween festivities should feature scattered clouds, dry conditions, with temps falling through the 60s and upper 50s.

High pressure continuing to ridge in from the north will combine with a bit of a coastal trough (a weak “front”). There may be some light spotty showers late Sunday into early Monday for the far eastern sections of the county, but the better rain chances (and they’re not all that great, to be honest) at the coast. Otherwise dry weather will dominate Monday through Wednesday with increasing warmth once again.

An area of low pressure is then expected to approach from the deep south while the high pressure ridge desperately tries to maintain control from the north. I think in this case the moisture from the southern-stream low will win the battle bringing some good rain chances in here Thursday and Friday (not shown on the graphic below). As of right now the model blends show a modest rainfall of up to an inch for the area late next week, but there are still quite a few days to watch this progression.

In case you’re wondering, there’s absolutely nothing of interest in the tropical Atlantic or Gulf.
