Here’s today’s Bottom Line

High pressure will keep our weather high-and-dry through Friday. Low humidity values will lead to a fairly wide range of temperature between morning low and afternoon high. Lows early Wednesday morning could be in the upper 40s.

But the bigger story is what is looming in the Gulf.

An area of low pressure is likely to form into a tropical depression or storm within the next 36-48 hours, and then possibly strengthen into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season. Modeling is suggesting that this system will lift east-northeast and then northeast and likely make landfall somewhere along the Gulf coast between Louisiana and Florida.

There are several unknowns at this time.

1) If a storm even forms.
2) How strong the storm becomes.
3) The ultimate track.
4) The forward speed.

Whatever forms, it is likely to become absorbed into an upper-level low and stream copious moisture up the coast. This could bring soaking rainfall to the Carolinas over the weekend. Given the forecast bust last weekend, I’m still kind of holding off on the rain chances, keeping them at 50% right now. Be cautious when making weekend plans, especially for this coming Sunday.
