Increased supplies of COVID-19 vaccines will mean all adults who want the shot will be eligible after April 7, Gov. Roy Cooper said today in a press conference.
“I’m grateful for North Carolinians who are taking this seriously and getting the shot when it’s their time and I’m encouraged that North Carolina will be able to open eligibility to all adults well ahead of the President’s May 1 goal,” said Cooper said.
Cooper said hospitalization numbers were below 1,000 again today. The state had 2,112 confirmed new cases this morning. North Carolina has seen 903,374 cases since last year, with 11,900 deaths from COVID-19.
Cooper said that the rest of Group Four essential workers and special needs patients can receive vaccinations starting March 31, and the rest of the population — Group Five — will be able to line up starting April 7.
“It’s now up to each of us to talk to our family and friends who are hesitant about getting vaccinated,” Cooper said. “The vaccine is the road to recovery for North Carolina.”
