First responders from Columbus and Brunswick scrambled on a reported plane crash in the Green Swamp on Tuesday, but the crash turned out to be a pit stop.
Brunswick 911 calls show a motorist heading toward Bolton on N.C. 211 had crossed the the county line when he saw a “two person small aircraft” go down just before 7 p.m. Columbus CountyCommunications dispatched deputies, along with Bolton and Buckhead firefighters, to assist and set up a possible helicopter landing zone.
A deputy checking the area discovered that two crop-dusters matching the description of the original plane were refueling at the Bear Pen airstrip.
