David Sharrod Thomas has been indicted by a grand jury for attempting to kill an unborn child inn 2021.

Thomas, 36, is being held under no bond. His address was listed in court documents as 4712 Andrew Jackson Hwy., Chadbourn. Indictments charging Thomas with attempted murder of an unborn child and possession of a firearm by a felon were returned May 8.

Chadbourn Police reported that in July 2021, Thomas shot Jameka Darden multiple times on Lowe Street. Thomas fled, and was arrested in August 2022 by U.S. marshals and Chadbourn Police on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury; possession of a firearm by a felon; and property damage. He was initially held under no bond, due to probation violations, but was released several months later.

In October 2023, Thomas was arrested by CPD and the sheriff’s office on narcotics charges. The CCSO Proactive Investigation of Violent Offenders Task Force (PIVOT) was conducting a patrol of areas of reported drug activity, the CCSO said in a press release.

During a vehicle stop on Seventh Street in Chadbourn, cocaine and a firearm were allegedly found in a vehicle operated by Thomas. He allegedly tried to fight with the arresting officers, and was detained.

Thomas’ mother, Daphine Sue Baker, 54, came to the scene and allegedly assaulted one of the deputies, causing minor injuries.  Mother and son were both arrested.

Thomas was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon; felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; maintaining a vehicle for drug activities; carrying a concealed weapon; resisting a public officer, and driving without a license.  Thomas also originally received no bond, but it was later set at $250,000.

He was previously convicted of being in possession of a stolen vehicle in 2013, and given a three year suspended sentence with 24 months probation.
