A romantic breakup led to a man’s home and vehicle being damaged with a pickaxe Sunday, according to a sheriff’s report.
No charges were filed in the case.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim contacted law enforcement after his former girlfriend allegedly damaged their home and a van with a pickaxe. The victim told deputies he and the woman had been involved in a “four day long argument” over a recent breakup.
When he saw the woman walking down the road near his home, he locked the door and went to a relative’s house, the report said. Around 2:30 a.m., the male said he could hear the woman damaging the property.
The report said there was a broken window, an air conditioner pulled from a window, significant damage to the porch of the home, a burned blanket that had been pulled from inside the residence, and another woman’s name and various phrases spray painted on the walls and a bed.
A Dodge van had also been struck three times by a pickaxe, the report said. Deputies collected the tool and spray paint cans as evidence.
The report also noted that since the man and woman had been in a previous relationship and she contributed to the household, the alleged vandalism was a civil matter.
“Evidence and (the) report were filed … simply due to the amount of damage,” the report said.
The male victim was advised to seek a no contact order and speak to a magistrate about possibly filing charges.
