A wayward alligator was removed from under a car at the Hampton Apartments in Whiteville today (Monday).
Whiteville Police were called after a resident found the gator in the parking lot, WPD said a social media post. The five-foot-long saurian was thought to have been pushed out of a nearby swamp or possibly White Marsh due to high water from Hurricane Debby.
Gators are common in the White Marsh and Soules swamp in Whiteville, but they generally avoid with humans. No injuries were reported, and the gator was safely relocated by a Wildlife Enforcement officer.
The Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC) usually does not relocate alligators, unless an animal is a threat to people or is in danger.
