The second Spring Fling Flock Swap in Whiteville Saturday drew hobby and professional farmers, arts and crafts vendors, food trucks and more.

“This is much bigger than we thought,” said Santana Miller, the volunteer organizer for the event. The event was sponsored by Gurganus Farm Store. “We have people here at 7:30 this morning, and it didn’t start until 9 a.m.”
In addition to sellers of conventional and exotic poultry and fowl, visitors could browse through booths normally only seen at the Columbus County Farmer’s Market. The market moved operations to the Flock Swap for the day, and several vendors reported selling out of their stock.
Numerous food trucks, including a dessert truck, were part of the event, and at least one of the vendors sold out of the day’s supply.
Animal Protective Services had to pause its free rabies clinic to retrieve more vaccines from the shelter. Cora Parker of APS said more than 400 pets were vaccinated.
