A months-long investigation ended with 25 arrests on a variety of narcotics charges this week, with most in Columbus County. Dubbed Operation Heat Wave, deputies and officers from multiple departments and agencies rounded up multiple suspects for sales of opiates, methamphetamine, and other drugs, as well as seizing firearms and cash.
A major planned development has been approved for the town of Bolton. More than 100 homes, plus commercial properties, are planned for an area near the intersection of N.C. 214 and N.C. 211, close to the new school site. We have reached out to town officials for more.
Jillian McPherson Edge is the new chair of the Columbus County Elections Board. The Beaverdam Republican was appointed by State Auditor Dave Boleik after the courts ruled in favor of a new law shifting elections authority from the governor to the auditor. Next door in Bladen County, longtime Elections Director Larry Hammond was named Chair of the Board. Hammond was a national consultant on elections and voting machines before his retirement as director in Bladen County.
