William Eugene “Sketter” Moore

September 1, 1947 ~ July 30, 2025 (age 77)

William Eugene Moore was born on September 1st, 1947, in Whiteville, North Carolina, and entered eternal rest on July 30, 2025 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

Affectionately known as “Sketter,” William was a cherished member of the Saint James community and a proud native of the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe. As a gifted musician, he found joy in sharing his talents with neighboring counties, uplifting others through song and spirit. A devoted father, he instilled a love for music in his children and was a true friend to many.

William professed his faith at an early age and remained steadfast in his spiritual journey, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to growth and devotion, sharing the Word through teaching and service in many churches—with a particular dedication to Victory in Jesus Ministries in Whiteville, North Carolina.  He lovingly reflected on time spent with family and friends, often reminding those around him of the blessings found in fellowship and shared faith. Always showing compassion, and his unwavering devotion to God left a spiritual legacy that continues to inspire and uplift all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Elder Cephas and Elizabeth Moore; brothers John James Moore, Leslie Moore, Edward “Bunk” Moore (and Ida Moore), and Raymond Moore.

William is survived by his brother, Kenneth Alan Moore of Lumberton, NC, and seven children: Cheryl Penovich (Joshua), Eugenia Moore (Jeremie), Connie Moore Simpson, William Moore Jr. (Chelsea), Pamela Moore, Joel Moore (Danielle), and MaLisa Moore. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Cedrick Moore, Damarian Monroe, Stephen Phillips, Ethan Monroe, Alexandria Hernandez, Azariah Penovich, Zenith Moore, and Nova Moore.

He is also lovingly remembered by a host of special nephews and nieces: GJ Moore, Joushua Moore, Richard Moore, Robert Moore, and Steven Moore; cherished cousins and lifelong friends, including Freddie Moore and Charles Graham; and a large, loving circle of great cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends.

William “Sketter” Moore’s gentle spirit, love of music, and devotion to faith and family will never be forgotten.

Celebration of life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Union Baptist Church in Lake Waccamaw, with Pastor Gregory Spaulding presiding. Burial will follow in the Mitchellfield Cemetery in Clarkton.

The family will speak to friends following the service.
