The state has reported the first case of West Nile virus in a human this year. Health officials urge residents to dump stagnant water, keep outside watering dishes clean, and empty your gutters to cut down on mosquito breeding grounds.

Warrants have been issued for a Chadbourn area man accused of abusing an 11 month old baby. Wayne Kienzle is on the run form law enforcement, but the child’s mother, Hali Canter, age 31, has been charged with a single count of felony negligent child abuse resulting in serious injury.

Deborah Dahl, 70, of Hallsboro now faces two felony counts of cruelty to animals and 19 counts of misdemeanor cruelty. She was originally charged with 94 counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals and one of practicing medicine without a license after around 100 dogs and a number of rabbits were found in unsanitary conditions at her home. Some of the dogs could not turn around in their kennels.
