James Rico Gore is being held under a $1 million bond after he allegedly tried to burn down a house with his mother and a small child inside.
Gore, 54, was arrested today (Monday) on charges of first degree arson, two counts of attempted first degree murder, and five counts of resisting an officer. His address was listed in detention center records as 212 Pete Circle, Tabor City.
Court documents show Gore allegedly set fire to his home while Eva Livingston and a five-year-old child were inside, with the intent to kill both victims. The order for arrest says that when Tabor City Police and sheriff’s deputies arrived, Gore began “tensing up” at officers and fled, after being ordered not to leave.
Tabor City Fire Chief Jeff Fowler said Gore had been instructed by Livingston to leave the home, and he apparently set fire to a bed.
“The smoke detectors went off and she got most of the fire out when we got there,” Fowler said. Neither Livingston nor the child were seriously injured.
Gore has a lengthy criminal history, and was released from prison on parole in March, according to prison records. He was serving time for possession of a firearm by a felon. He was previously convicted of assault on a law enforcement officer, assault on a female and armed robbery and larceny.
The fire marshal and the sheriff’s office are investigating.
