Familiar Face Leads Stallions Football

TABOR CITY—South Columbus has a new football coach who is familiar to Stallion Country – Jake Fonvielle.

He will be replacing Russell Dove, who stepped down at the end of last season. While he may be the new head coach of the Stallions, he is no stranger to the program or community.

Fonvielle is a graduate of South Columbus and a lifelong resident in the community. He also has some head coaching experience right here in Tabor City. He was the coach of the Stallions from 2009 to 2013, guiding his teams to a 45-19 record with several conference titles. The 2011 and 2012 Stallion squads lost in the Eastern Championship title games. His conference record from 2010 to 2013 was an amazing 21-3.

“I’m looking forward to coaching these young men. I want them to enjoy the experience while they’re here at South Columbus,” Fonvielle said.

Fonvielle will not be left out to dry with this year’s team. Coach Russell Dove left Fonvielle in great shape, with a conference championship team that went to the second round of the playoffs last year.

Not only does Coach Fonvielle “nurture” young men on the football field, he and his family have been nurturing gardens for years. Jake’s family owns EW Fonvielle and Sons Feed and Garden Center in Tabor City. The Stallion community is excited to have one of its own to help grow their kids along with their gardens. We look forward to Coach Fonvielle’s “crop” in the 2026 football season.
