Tabor Talk for Feb. 11

By Cynthia Nelson

Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce

Well, the snow is all gone.  Did you enjoy your “snow days”?  We sure did.  The best way to feel like a kid again is an amazing snow day!

Let’s start by talking a little bit more about our 80th Annual Banquet. We would love for you to join us next week on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Todd House Wedding and Event Center (102 Live Oak Street in Tabor City) at 6:30 p.m. The cost per person is $30. Invitations have been sent however, you do not need an invitation to attend.  Yes, we do need to know you’re coming so we have enough food for everyone, so get your name in the RSVP list and you may pay at the door.

The meal will be catered by MacDaddy’s BBQ and Country Cooking. They will be preparing fried pork chops, buttery potatoes, sweet peas, apple dump cobbler, tea, lemonade, and I know I probably left something off.  Just expect deliciousness!  They don’t know how to cook anything less than that.

The theme of the 80th Annual Banquet is “Today’s Youth – Tomorrow’s Leaders”. Our guest speaker will be Tabor City Bell Supply Company’s  Bradley Bell.  He will share more about today’s youth as they prepare to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Bradley Bell currently serves as the Membership Chair of the Tabor City Committee of 100, Inc., which began a Youth Internship Program last year.

Please save the date of Tuesday, Feb. 17.  We look forward to having you join us in the banquet hall of the Todd House Wedding and Event Center at 6:30 p.m. You definitely will not want to miss this.

Call 910.377.3012 or 910.840.0292 to reserve your seat today.

Saturday, July 4;

Columbus County Semiquincentennial Fireworks Celebration!

As we have previously said, the United States of America is celebrating 250 years of independence this year.  There will be astounding celebrations held all around our nation.  We plan to substantially ramp up the Annual Columbus County Fireworks Celebration into the Semiquincentennial Celebration, which will be held on Saturday the Fourth of July. We need your help.

Many of our citizens remember the Bicentennial Year of our nation in 1976. I was a teenager and remember that one well.  My family carried us to Wilmington to their huge celebration. We didn’t have an event in Columbus County hosted by Tabor City in those days.  How fortunate are we to have an annual fireworks event here now.

Let’s make this year’s Semiquencentennial Celebration one to remember.  We can’t do it without you!  We will be reaching out to Tabor City and to the rest of our county for sponsorships to make the fireworks display absolutely phenomenal and to increase the entertainment and more.

Please be aware that the amount of sponsorships have pretty much remained the same as the cost of pyrotechnics continues to increase.  That means in order to have more fireworks to light up the sky we must increase sponsorships.  This year we will reach out to more businesses and organizations throughout the county as we celebrate our 250th birthday. You don’t need to wait, we will accept sponsorships now.  Every dollar donated helps.  We can do this together!

As always, we need more event volunteers.  Please call us at 910.377.3012 if you are interested and willing to put in some time and effort. We work hard, but it is very rewarding.

Should you wish to become a member of this Chamber of Commerce, please contact us by email at tccofc@yahoo.com or by phone at 910.377.3012 or 910.840.0292.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Our days and hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  Please know that these hours will continue until further notice.

Remember that “Opportunity Awaits” as Today’s Youth become Tomorrow’s Leaders.
