• Suspect also held in Tabor City area thefts.

A married couple was arrested on Valentines Day after an alleged larceny that led to cocaine charges and other felonies.

Kenneth Garrett Bowen, 47, and Valerie Pittman Bowen, 42, both of 6615 Haynes Lennon Rd., Evergreen, were each charged with felony larceny, felony possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and second degree trespassing, according to detention center reports. Mrs. Bowen was held under $7,500 secured bond, and Bowen was held without bond.

In an unrelated case, Lloyd Devon Duncan, 44, of Knife Island Rd., Marion, S.C., was held under $25,000, charged with felony larceny. The sherif’s office said more charges are pending against Duncan.

Deputies were called to a property on Edmund Road, Evergreen Saturday after the owner saw suspicious activity on a security camera. The owner told deputies he previously told the Bowens to stay off his property after he saw them collecting scrap metal, and tat their vehicle was once again on camera.

Upon arrival, deputies found Bowen “actively loading scrap metal into the vehicle,” according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

“During the investigation, the male was unable to provide the property owner’s name or permission to be on site,” the release said. Deputies also observed what appeared to be narcotics in plain view.

Deputies located suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia on the Bowens and inside the vehicle. Receipts from a metal recycling facility were also discovered. Their vehicle was seized and towed, and the stolen scrap metal was returned to the owner.

On Sunday, deputies located Duncan at a residence on Clarendon-Chadbourn Road. He was taken into custody without incident. Investigators subsequently recovered several stolen go-cart motors and parts hidden in a wooded area behind the residence. The items were returned to the victim.
