One Injured in Fight Between Panhandlers

A homeless man was cut on the toe and robbed of $3.58 after an early morning fight with another panhandler in Whiteville March 4.

Bruce Pollard, 24, told Whiteville Police he was panhandling near the Hardee’s at Washington and J.K. Powell around 4 a.m. when a second man approached him asking for money. Pollard, who is homeless, reported that he gave the second man 50 cents, and a fight ensued where both men pulled knives.

In the scuffle, Pollard was reportedly cut on his toe, and the second man left the scene with $3.58 he took from Pollard. The victim was not seriously injured.

Pollard was heavily intoxicated when he spoke with police, according to the report.
