Leland Police have arrested the suspect in Thursday’s drive-by shooting in Whiteville.
Javion Delton Evans, 22, was arrested Sunday in Leland. He was held without bond pending transfer to Columbus County. Warrants show Evans was charged with seven counts of property damage, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm inside city limits, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle, discharging a weapon into occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon. Leland Police also charged him with possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed handgun. His address was listed as 17 Carucci Dr., Whiteville.
Whiteville Police were called to Covey Run II apartments Thursday around 5:30 p.m. to a report of multiple shots fired. Evans allegedly fired on a car being operated by Jalen Nique Shipman, striking the vehicle. He also allegedly fired shots into an apartment occupied by Kimberly Colson, who sustained a minor injury to the neck. Four vehicles also sustained major damage from gunfire.
Warrants show Evans allegedly used a Glock handgun in the attack.
Evans was convicted of possession of a weapon of mass destruction in Columbus County Superior Court in 2024. He was given three years of probation in that case.
