Here’s today’s Bottom Line
This week’s weather will be broken up into two parts: Hot and stormy… and then cooler and stormy.
The biggest highlight is the potential for several inches of rain over the area this week.
Temperatures are going to remain hot today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. The ridging that we experienced earlier this month isn’t in place but with the lack of any significant weather systems, the heat stays. Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be in place today and tomorrow. Any storm that forms will be capable of producing locally intense rainfall and excessive cloud-to-ground lightning.
A strong cold front then enters the picture on Wednesday. This system crosses our area late Wednesday.
Meteorological conditions are expected to be in place which would be a perfect stew for severe weather late Wednesday into Wednesday night. The SPC has our area highlighted for this potential, and the NWS WPC has our area outlined in a potential for excessive rainfall.
All modes of severe weather could be on the table for Wednesday evening/night.
The front is likely to stall either just offshore or just inland from the shore. An area of low pressure may develop and rotate along this frontal boundary, throwing more moisture into the area. Modeling suggests that Friday may bring a bit of temporary drying but I can’t go rain-free for any day going into the weekend.
TROPICS: Tropical Depression #2 will likely become Bertha by this afternoon. The system is expected to move pretty much due west along the northern Gulf coast and into Texas. Absolutely no threat to the Carolinas.
