Whiteville Man Charged in Child Porn Case
The man arrested earlier this year for attempting to purchase child pornography now faces 20 felony charges related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Michael Deshawn Smith-Green, 38, of 109 Stanly St., Whiteville, is being held under no bond, according to detention center records. He faces 20 counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and one of second degree. The second degree charge resulted from a documented successful purchase of CSAM, WPD said.
Warrants show that Smith-Green had multiple images of child sexual activity involving children ages 8 to 12, including at least one file that featured an adult having sex with an underage victim. He is alleged to have used bitcoin purchases through CashApp to make the transactions, according to warrants.
In May, Smith-Green was arrested for felony conspiracy to purchase CSAM after allegedly trying to use bitcoin to purchase child porn through a “known CSAM vendor” in 2025, according to warrants. He was released on a $5,000 secured bond in that case.
WPD said in a press release that a search warrant was executed on Smith-Green’s apartment on April 1. Officers seized multiple electronic devices.
“Forensic examinations of the devices led to additional evidence related to the possession of CSAM,” the release said. An additional search warrant was served Monday, WPD said, and may result in more charges.
“This investigation remains active and ongoing,” the release said. “Additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.”
