A boy called 911 after the woman he was riding with passed out behind the wheel Aug. 7, and the Virginia woman now faces charges of DWI. child abuse, marijuana and possession of a stolen gun.
Natoya Cherrelle Hairston, 37, of Spencer, Va., was arrested on N.C. 130, according to the sheriff’s office. She was charged with driving while impaired, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, no operator’s license, and misdemeanor child abuse. Her bond was set at $10,000.
A citation from the Highway Patrol shows that Hairston was found stopped on N.C. 130 in Nakina during the early morning hours of Aug. 7. She was apparently passed out behind the wheel of her Honda passenger car, the citation said.
A child in the back seat told the trooper that Hairston had taken “a pink pill” and passed out. The boy called 911, the report said. The troper and deputies revived the woman with Narcan.
Deputies searched the vehicle and turned up a .380 Ruger handgun stolen from Horry County, as well as a small amount of marijuana, warrants show. She also allegedly had a marijuana grinder.
Hairston was treated at an area hospital and taken into custody.
