Five Columbus County homeowners could see $950,000 in repairs if the county is approved for a new Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
Commissioners will set a date for a public hearing on the grant application at Monday’s regular meeting. Funding would be based on how much is available, applicants meeting income and eligibility requirements, and other factors.
Also on Monday’s agenda, Sheriff Bill Rogers will request permission to dispose of around 25 cars, trucks vans and other vehicles declared surplus. Most are retired patrol vehicles from the CCSO, along with some that were seized in investigations. The vehicles will be sold at auction Sept. 2, and all monies from sales would be used to purchase new vehicles.
The CCSO is also requesting to move $275,000 from the construction fund to purchase of furniture, desks and computers in the new sheriff’s office. The money is being moved from the parking lot construction budget.
The board will also honor the Dixie Central Ponytails for their recent participation in the 2026 World Series.
Commissioners will meet in closed session at 5:30, with the open meeting set for 6:30 p.m. in the board chambers. The meeting may be attended in person or viewed on the county’s YouTube channel.
