Riegelwood Man Gets 23-40 Months

A New Hanover County judge has sentenced a Riegelwood man to 23-40 months in prison after a drug arrest in Wilmington.

George Devon McNair, 51, pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, according to a release from the New Hanover County District Attorney’s Office.

In May 2025, Wilmington Police performed a traffic stop on McNair’s Chevrolet Tahoe. From prior contacts the officers knew he had a revoked license and an outstanding warrant, the press release said. WPD had been watching the vehicle coming and going from the Howard Johnson Motelon Market Street for much of the day.

Police found $272 in cash, and 28 plastic bags containing a total of 6.89 grams of cocaine divided for sale. The motel is near the Mosley Career Readiness Academy, a high school on Princess Place Drive, the WPD reported.

McNair has previously convictions for possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine in 2001 and 2002, and trafficking cocaine in 2009.

Judge R. Kent Harrell heard the case. Asst. District Attorney David Joyner represented the state.
