Complaints from citizens led Columbus County Deputies to spend some extra time in the Rico community recently, and the effort paid off with two arrests for multiple felony charges.
Arrest reports show Terrance Omar Shipman, 32, of Red Store Road and Michael Dewayne Mitchell, 34, of Rico Road were arrested by deputies working the area between Rico and Green Elkins roads.
Mitchell allegedly had a .40 caliber handgun, 12 gauge shotgun, digital scales with white power residue, cocaine, and baggies in his vehicle. His bond was set at $12,000. Mitchell was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, simple possession of cocaine, and paraphernalia. He was also cited for a taillight violation.
In an unrelated case, Shipman was arrested near the intersection of Green Elkins and Baldwin roads. He allegedly denied having any weapons in his vehicle, according to the report, but deputies saw a firearm in the vehicle. During the search they also found MDMA tablets and a small amount of marijuana. His bond was set at $5,000. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of paraphernalia, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of MDMA.
Sheriff Jody Greene said the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice-Narcotics Unit will continue to saturate problematic areas in the county, targeting illegal narcotics activity.
