National Prescription Drug Takeback Day is Saturday, April 26 at Walmart in Whiteville. Law enforcement will be accepting unwanted and outdated medicines no questions asked from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Pills, tablets, prescription medications and matches are welcome. Do not bring syringes, liquids, aerosol cans or illegal drugs for disposal.
A 450 acre wildfire in Pender County was quickly under control Saturday by the Forest Service and local fire departments. Fire conditions are worsening as drought conditions continue in our area. No burn ban has been issued here, but if you must burn, monitor wind direction, keep firefighting tools and a cell phone handy, and do not burn on windy days.
