Another Burger King restaurant, this time in Whiteville, was damaged by fire Friday morning. Whiteville Fire Marshall Hal Lowder said staff at the Columbus Corners BK called 911 at 6:32 a.m. They discovered smoke and flames while opening the eatery for the morning. A road crew picking up trash along Pine Log Road Monday found part of a handgun, a sheriff’s report said. Cpl. Z. Morris of the sheriff’s office responded to the call in the 2000 block just before noon.
