Corey Robert Heckler of Bladenboro has been charged with felony statutory rape of a child. The Bladen Sheriff’s Office said Heckler was arrested after a parent of a juvenile found inappropriate material on a child’s phone and contacted detectives. He is being held under $250,000 secured bond. Sheriff Jim McVicker said more charges are pending.
An altercation involving as many as ten people devolved into gunfire near Tabor City Sunday. No one was injured in the incident, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said. Gov. Roy Cooper has commuted the life sentence for a convicted murderer from Robeson County. George Lesane, 47, has served 30 years in prison for killing Larry McCormick.
