Multiple charges were filed after a Cherry Grove man allegedly choked a woman unconscious with an extension cord. Jonathan Grooms, 27, of 562 Cheery Grove Rd., Cerro Gordo, faces charges of assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, common law robbery, domestic violence, misdemeanor child abuse, and communicating threats, according to warrants and detention center reports. Heavy winds damaged Galloway Farms Maze Craze Friday, toppled trees at Lake Waccamaw and elsewhere, and dropped from three to seven inches of rain across the county. Investigators have arrested a fourth suspect in $100,000 theft ring that spanned three counties. Matthew Wayne Hurst, John Michael McDonald, Shayna Logue, and Joseph Reinhart all face multiple felonies in the case, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
