Mom, grandmother charged in Riegelwood drug case

DSS takes custody of child from “filthy” home.

Two women were arrested on drug charges and a toddler was turned over to Social Services after an Aug. 13 raid on a home described as “filthy”.

Kandice Hickman Freeman, 31, and her mother, June Bordeaux Westfall, 57, were arrested after citizen complaints led to an investigation by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice-Narcotics Unit.

The women were arrested at their home located at 108 Church street in Riegelwood. Once inside the residence, investigators were “disturbed” at what they witnessed, according to a press release. Agents reported finding crushed and intact prescription pills and marijuana throughout the home and within easy access of the toddler.

Freeman is alleged to have completed multiple drug transactions, selling illegal narcotics to an undercover operative.  

The Columbus County Department of Social Services took custody of the child.  

Investigators located marijuana in several rooms, along with meth, smoking pipes, a grinder, rolling papers, a set of scales, and packaging materials.  
Freeman was charged with simple possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and possession of paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $1,000.Westfall was held under a $500 bond on a charge of simple possession of marijuana
