Whiteville Police have arrested the man suspected of the Oct. 25 murder of Tony Baker at Sandy Ridge Apartments.
Leroy Moore Jr.of Fayetteville was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by Whiteville Police and the State Bureau of Investigation. Moore is charged with first degree murder, and was held without bond, according to a press release from WPD.
Baker was shot to death Oct. 25 at the complex. He was transported to Columbus Regional, but later died of his injuries.
The shooting was the fourth killing at the complex since 2019, and came as the District attorney’s Office and WPD were working on a nuisance abatement order against the owners of the crime-ridden housing complex. Sandy Ridge is currently off limits to visitors and non-residents, and is being patrolled by Whiteville Police. Another court hearing on the order is set for December.
