Second run fails for suspect

The second time wasn’t the charm for an alleged drug dealer who ran from a traffic checkpoint Nov. 9.

Alijah Jouwan Green, 18, of Loris, was held under $42,500 secured bond, charged with fleeing to elude arrest, felony possession of cocaine, simple possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen vehicle and property damage, according to detention center records.

The latest chase occurred Tuesday afternoon. The sheriff’s office reported that deputies were conducting a checking station at Sandy Plains Church and Wright roads when Green approached the officers in a Honda automobile. He abruptly turned to avoid the checkpoint, the report said, and fled when a deputy attempted to stop him. The pursuit ended when Green lost control of the car on Miller Road. A deputy’s car sustained $3,000 damage in Tuesday’s incident.

It was Green’s second recent run from the law, the sheriff’s office said. He is alleged to have fled a checking station at Shug Norris and Peacock roads Oct. 16, in the same vehicle. That chase was cut short out of safety concerns.
